Chiemsee Marzipan manufactory
Historical
The marzipan production has a decades-long monastic tradition. But the origin of marzipan is probably in the Orient. There, the delicious almond sugar mixture was served as the culmination of the pleasures of the palate on the panel of the caliphs. The marzipan came to Europe through the Crusades, where it was first produced by pharmacists and was still used as a remedy until the 18th century. Sugar bakers began by hand to mold and sell the simple marzipan loaves into elaborate shapes and figures.
"A piece of heaven on earth"
The secret of our traditional recipe for the various fine "Chiemseer marzipan specialties" lies in the balanced mix of the individual ingredients and the daily freshly prepared products.
As part of the 2nd Klosterladen Symposium of the Media and Services Society (MDG) in the Frauenwörth Abbey, our "Marzipan Coffee Confection" was awarded a first prize in the category "most convincing monastery product" in 2010.
The in-house marzipan blend combined with the addition of coffee guarantees a unique palate treat!
